As a Canadian living in the UK, I don't see many places that serve poutine. Loved it! Unfortunately our uber driver got lost and it was cold by the time it arrived but even with that you could tell there was extra flavour to make it better and unique.

Walking down Exmouth Market, Gerry's stood out for that bright red sign, a queue of people, and what also caught my attention was seeing Canada's national dish - "Poutine" on the menu; also other popular classic dishes from American cuisine, that have also travelled across the border becoming staples of Canadian cuisine too. Gerry's became my choice for lunch as I had a need for Poutine having visited Canada 6 times, and is something hard to find outside of North America; as the most important element is the cheese curds, which is hard to source in England. After receiving my order and opening the box I was overjoyed seeing the size of the portion, the gravy drenched over the fries and large cheese curds; the fries are so crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, not easily turning to mush when from the gravy being added. I was so eager to eat the dish that I couldn't leave it sitting for a bit longer, to have the gravy slowly melt the curds for that ultimate comfort food bite. I really like the decor that gives that North American "Mom & Pop" deli/diner vibe which you get from the colours, menu board, pictures and even the kitchen towels scattered around. I have many friends from Canada and the US, that I've suggested to hit up Gerry's for a taste of home. There are so many places that sell North American cuisine (burgers everywhere), but few can give you that ultimate experience as Gerry's does. Though I only had Poutine I'll definitely be back for more food, seeing they do Philly Cheese Steak subs, hotdogs, and other classic US / Canadian dishes that are also featured in their "Monthly specials". If you want that big US or Canadian eat done well and done right, then get down to Gerry's for big eats to give you big smiles!

Super subs... Great poutine (nice and peppery gravy, stealth fries stayed nice and crispy, good curds) and whilst I much prefer Cheeze Whiz on my cheesesteak, that’s just a personal preference; the roll was nice and soft, steak was decent, peppers and onions were welcome additions. Portions and pricing I thought were bang on. It’s substantial but not overwhelming and pretty good value for it. Place is nicely laid out and feels pleasingly ramshackle, but with great design work on signage etc, which is a catnip-like combination for me. Thumbs up all round.

I heard about this place recently, and was very curious. I’m normally very well informed, so it is peculiar that I found out about Gerry’s so late. Anyway, I went during my day off, and managed to go after the lunch rush hour, at around 14.30. I over ordered, as always, because I could see that no matter how many subs I would get, I was going to come back to try the ones I did not manage to eat. The staff and the owner are super friendly, competent, and ready to provide excellent advise! I had the cubano special, the brisket, and the meatballs, drunk sparkling water and a Paulaner. Everything was excellent and I managed to eat everything until the last bite ! I’m already planning my next visit. Delicious food at competitive prices, this is a must !

First poutine loaded with pulled pork and squeaky cheese I had outside of Canada that nearly gave me a heart attack. 10/10. Maybe don't get a large loaded poutine when you're just by yourself though. You can sit out back in the garden as well.

We had Cubano and Bang Bang Chicken subs and they both are really good! The sauce in Cubano is fantastic with melting cheese. Bang bang is a little bit similar to a Vietnamese sandwich Banh mi I guess, and it’s really good too. They have garden faced seats outside, perfect for a sunny day!

Slowly making my way around the menu: So far tried the Chicken Buffalo, Fish Sub and Philly Cheesesteak in order of preference (the chicken buffalo was outstanding!) Cool little retro feeling hot sub joint

The food is delicious and unfussy, definitely cooked with love and attention to detail. We had considered ordering takeaway but we were glad that we ate in instead, because Andre is very friendly and welcoming and the music is GREAT! Come with friends who don't mind sharing so that you can try a couple of different subs (and don't be afraid of getting a bit messy!)
